Do you actually need the ferry?
Not always, and this is the part most first-time visitors get wrong. There are two embarkation models in Raja Ampat and they produce completely different first days.
Model one: embark in Sorong. You board the phinisi in Sorong harbour, usually in the morning, and the vessel steams into the dive area while you settle into your cabin, do the safety briefing and eat lunch. Long transits are done under way rather than in a ferry seat. This is the standard for itineraries heading south to Misool, where the passage is on the order of ten to twelve hours and is deliberately run overnight.
Model two: embark in Waisai. You take the fast ferry across, complete Marine Park formalities, and board the vessel at Waisai. This suits itineraries that start in the Dampier Strait, where Kri, Arborek and Manta Sandy are only thirty to sixty minutes away by tender or speedboat.
Your confirmation states which applies. Do not assume.

Treat those ticket prices as the commonly quoted band rather than a fixed tariff — they are revised, and the honest answer is that they move. The two-hour crossing time is the more stable number, and even that stretches in a swell.
What is the crossing actually like?
Functional. It is a passenger ferry serving a working route between a port city and a regency seat, not a scenic cruise. VIP class is air-conditioned with assigned seats; economy is warmer and busier. Luggage goes where the crew tells you it goes.
The sea between Sorong and Waisai is usually manageable but is genuinely open water in places, and in the roughest months it can be uncomfortable. What happens when you land in Waisai?
Waisai is the administrative centre of the Raja Ampat regency: a small town with a harbour, a handful of shops, government offices and the Marine Park Office. For most cruise guests it is a transit point measured in an hour or two.
The sequence on a Waisai embarkation day is usually: arrive at the harbour, transfer the short distance to the Marine Park Office, complete conservation-fee formalities around 11:30, then board. How does the return day work?
Backwards, and with less slack than you would like. A standard afternoon departure from Waisai to Sorong leaves around 14:00, which sets the whole shape of your last morning: one early dive at most, a surface interval that respects your flight, then packing.
The critical constraint is the no-fly interval after diving. Plan your last dive around your flight home, not the other way round, and build a buffer into the Sorong end of the return as well. A late ferry and a tight domestic connection is a bad combination after a week at sea.
